The Idol of Citrus is slowly being torn down and in its' place, erected as a purple figure, the Oracle of Lavender takes the head of the Lush pantheon of smells. Numbering in the 60's, lavender oil is a product that lush and its fans love to love. It can range from a natural herbal and floral smell to presentations of deep sweetness that it pairs with so well. The Deep Sleep Shower Jelly is an old Lush product that has been brought back in 2018 to excite those lush fans that enjoy the more herbal depths of lavender.
Having been made originally in the long lost years of early 2000, Deep Sleep is a shower jelly that sold very well but was discontinued (twice) to make room for the other varieties of shower jelly that rose and fell in popularity. Deep Sleep has remained though!
Tag lined by Lush as "Soporific Sunsets" this shower jelly has the soothing fragrances of chamomile and lavender that can really bring you to a soporific state. On the other side of those sleepy smells, Lush has included mood lifting neroli and fresh orange juice. Sadly, the herbal smell of lavender seems to really dominate the nose-buds in this realm and stamp out most of the other smells.
The smell of this jelly is really nice however, it branches over from floral into herbal because of the strength of the lavender oil in it. The chamomile and neroli do work well to soften that smell and it ends up being very similar to the smell of Unicorn Horn, only more herbal.
Deep Sleep is colored with sunflower petal infusion and other pigments giving it its color. It is also dipped in some lovely gold glitter. The appearance of this jelly is truly beautiful and has a deep golden orange color, similar to a lovely sunset.
More often than not, the carrageenan that helps to make our jellies jiggle can also moisturize and tone our skin very well. Using a shower jelly will give you a softer and more smooth feeling skin than a shower gel or soap. Not all shower jellies are like this, though and some of them will dry your skin like any other soap.
Lady Bubble and Lord Fizz do find that leaving some shower jelly suds on your skin for a moment longer than a normal soap will leave you with the softened and moisturized skin that was mentioned before. Deep Sleep is definitely one of those shower jellies that helps you feel softer and more smooth. You may still be dry and in need of lotion but your skin will take on a more toned and silky quality after you wash it all off.
Like any shower jelly, Deep Sleep can be difficult to use in the shower. Using it in a loofah can be very effective but a coarse 'shower towel' seems to be the best option. Lady Bubble and Lord Fizz like to take a small piece of a jelly and lather it a shower towel. This usually makes an overflowing torrent of foam that will be more than enough to clean yourself with.
