It isn't often that we venture outside of the realm of our typical postings. We like Lush and we like to focus on it but recently we found something that caught our attention so much we wanted to tell all of you about it. Before any our the Lush purists get riled up though, let use assure you it is not a cosmetic or bath-time product. We too are as pure as the whitest bubbles and have no intent of betraying our beloved Lush.
That being sad the lovely thing that we have stumbled upon could probably start its' own following of fanatics here in Korea. It is nothing too exotic (being something that has recently become one of the most trendy snacks in Korea) but it is a rendition of the popular Macaroon that puts every one we have ever tried to shame.
The store is known as Doeun Macaroon and can be found near the Hongdae district of Seoul. This new shop is in a popular and trendy district of Seoul. Like any decor-spoiled person living in Korea can tell you, we love a good interior and design in a cafe or restaurant and you surely get that here. It has a cute minimalism style with white decorations and colorful macaroons and peaceful views framed by the full length window.

Earl Grey Macaroon |
What makes these Macaroon's special is hard what really makes anything special. It is quality. The ingredients are always fresh and real. The biscuit part of the Macaroon is perfectly crisp and chewy and the cream is flavorful and balanced with the outside cookie. We were lucky enough to try several of these and they were all fantastic. To match our "pallet" of summery Lush products, we tried fruity and citrus flavors of Macaroons. We had lemon, Ritz Cracker, yuzu, fig, orange and Earl Grey. Getting six of those was about 14,000 won or around 12 USD and for a level of quality handmade product like this, that is a very good price.

Fig Macaroon |
Each one of the Macaroon's had a distinct and really enjoyable taste. The lemon and yuzu were so delightfully sour and refreshing. The fig and and the Ritz cracker flavor were both amazingly spot-on in their rendition of the original flavors. The Early Grey flavor, which is always a favorite of ours was so good. It was both slightly acidic and herbal, like a good Earl Grey is. Orange was also a good flavor but for Lady Bubble and Lord Fizz, both of us do not enjoy orange flavors generally. The balance of the crisp and chew of the cookie's with the softness of the filling was perfectly balanced for all of these and really a luxurious mouthful.

Yuzu Macaroon |
Not only do the flavors of the Macaroon's shine as authentic and really well made but the design is so cute! The colors are distinct and well distributed within in the biscuit and the contrast's between the filling and the biscuit's color is very eye-catching.
This shop has a product that is undoubtedly a work of artistry. The work of the owner can be seen in each one. If you find yourself in Seoul make a small detour to try one of these fantastic Macaroons (or 6) and pair them with a lovely Lush bath.
